How Far in Advance Should You Book Your Photographer?

February 2026

Wedding season books fast in Houston. Here’s our honest guide to lead times for every type of session — and what happens when you wait too long.

It Depends on the Job

The honest answer is that it varies a lot by what you need. Weddings are the big one — the best dates, especially in spring and fall, get claimed nine to twelve months out, and once a date is booked it’s gone. If you have a wedding date and a photographer you love, don’t wait. For portraits, family sessions, and headshots, two to four weeks is usually comfortable, though mini-session events and the busy fall holiday-card season book up faster than people expect.

Time-Sensitive Work

Real estate and commercial shoots are different — we know listings move fast, so we keep room in the schedule and can often turn around a property shoot within a day or two of your call, with photos delivered next-day. For events, conferences, and sports, earlier is always better, because we can only be in one place at a time on any given date.

Why Booking Early Helps You

Booking ahead isn’t just about availability. It gives us time to plan properly — to scout your location, plan wardrobe and shot lists, and build the timeline around the best light. Rushed shoots are still good shoots, but the ones we plan are the ones that turn out best.

If your date is flexible, mid-week and morning slots are easier to get and often more relaxed. And if you’re ever on a tight turnaround, just ask — we offer rush delivery on most services. The simplest advice: reach out as soon as you have a date in mind, even if the details aren’t final. We’ll hold your spot and sort the rest together.
